What If Life Had A “Do Over”?

Author shares child abuse victim’s struggle to survive and overcome. Children are suffering from a hidden epidemic. According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the number of deaths related to child abuse continually rises, and every year nearly 6 million American children are the victims of abuse. This only includes incidents that are actually reported.

Carol Anne Leathers’ novel Do Over sheds light on a serious subject that frequents many American homes. In the book, a woman struggles to overcome the brutal physical and sexual abuse she received as a child. Based on the author’s life, the story reflects true instances of abuse and its long-term effects. It also explores the concept of wishing for a new life—a “do over”—and how the main character might have lived differently had the abuse been prevented.
“This book began as a journal, a way to express a tremendous feeling of sadness, hopelessness and grief,” says Leathers. “It led me to think about a “do over” and what I would do if I had the chance to go back and prevent the abuse. In the end, I hope it inspires others who have lived through their own version of the nightmare of abuse.”
Do Over is an uplifting story that reveals themes of faith, honesty, acceptance and love. The book also explores topics related to child abuse, including genealogy, prevention and early treatment in order to stop the abusive cycle.
