With the next few months in Congress dominated by important debates on issues ranging from the debt ceiling, immigration, gun control and the long standing well-being of Social Security and Medicare, Bay Staters are joining a new petition on SignOn.org urging Governor Deval Patrick to appoint former Representative Barney Frank as interim Senator for the state of Massachusetts.

John F. Kelley, a semi-retired senior from Norfolk, Massachusetts, started his petition after it became clear that Republicans in Congress were targeting Social Security and Medicare for large cuts in the new budget and debt negotiations. “At a time like this, we need someone with the courage, the conviction and the experience to stand up for seniors and working families in Congress—and we can't think of anyone who would do a better job over the next few months than Barney Frank,” said Kelley. “Barney Frank has never been afraid of a fight, and if appointed to the Senate to replace John Kerry, he won't back down in defending working families and seniors like me.”
