On 1/13/13 at approximately 3:20am Paramus Officer Dan DeRienzo observed a 2001 Ford Focus, sitting stationary on the shoulder of Route 17 North, near the Garden State Parkway. Officer DeRienzo positioned his patrol vehicle behind the Ford Focus. He could see that the vehicle was idling, however it appeared that it was unoccupied. When he approached the vehicle he observed a male occupant in the driver’s seat, slumped over apparently unconscious.
Officer DeRienzo opened the driver’s door and reached to move the shifter to park, as it was still in drive. After waking the male occupant, later identified as 28 year old Walter Pintado of Monsey, NY, he detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from Mr. Pintado. After further investigation, Mr. Pintado was placed under arrest for driving while intoxicated. He was transported to Paramus Police Headquarters for chemical breath testing. He was cited for driving while intoxicated, unlicensed driver, and possessing an open container of alcohol inside a motor vehicle. He was later released pending court appearance.
