Because the construction means the loss of fifteen hundred parking spaces, Ms. Mattes explained that the mall has expanded its valet parking to the space under the theaters. Not only that, but there is an app that will allow the person using the valet service to call fifteen minutes ahead to have their car brought around to the departure site. She explained that they are doing everything to make parking comfortable for their patrons despite the shortage of parking spaces and the expected parking crunch. Thankfully, the new garage should be ready by November 2013 in time for the Christmas influx of traffic.
Another thoughtful plus is the arrangement that Westfield Garden State Plaza Shopping Center with the valet parking . In order to accommodate drivers with Handicap tags or cards, if they cannot find a Handicap spot vacant, they can pull up to the valet parking and show their Handicap approval. The Valet service will park their cars for free!
Westfield had planned furnishing a new garage and expanding to twenty more stores to alleviate the increasing demand for quality retail space at the Garden State Plaza Shopping Center. Permits for this project have been approved over a year ago. The store construction will be delayed until the parking problem is settled and will bring five hundred more spaces than before into the garage.
We took a tour of the now cordoned off parking garage which, according to Mattes had exceeded the planned life span. It seemed strange to see the once busy garage that is now an empty hulk! The new garage will have speed ramps so that the driver doesn't have to complete a circuit of the floor to reach the next up ramp. Not only that, but there will be counter marker signs to indicate the spaces open on each level.
