Governor Christie’s opposition to a woman’s right to choose shows he’s out of step with New Jersey
Metuchen, NJ—State senator and Democratic gubernatorial candidate Barbara Buono made the following statement on the 40th anniversary of the Supreme Court’s ruling in Roe v. Wade.
“Today we mark the 40th anniversary of Roe v. Wade, a landmark ruling that empowered women to make their own choices about their reproductive health. We must do everything we can to reduce unintended pregnancies, but a woman’s choices about her body and her health should be made by her and her family alone. Sadly, Chris Christie is the only New Jersey governor since Roe v. Wade to oppose a woman’s right to choose. Not only has he supported anti-abortion groups committed to overturning Roe, Christie has slashed funding for Planned Parenthood and women’s health across our state. Governor Christie’s hostility and opposition to women’s reproductive freedom sends a clear message that he is far outside the mainstream of New Jersey voters and our values.”
