A Mayoral Wager On Super Bowl XLVII
By Mel Fabrikant Friday, February 01, 2013, 05:13 AM EST
Mayor John Ward from Audubon, NJ, and Mayor John Lazar from Turlock, CA, are staunch supporters of their respective hometown football heroes and the teams they play for. Mayor Ward and the Borough of Audubon have long championed Joe Flacco and his team, the Baltimore Ravens, while Mayor Lazar and the City of Turlock have continued to support quarterback Colin Kaepernick and his team, the San Francisco 49ers.
In the spirit of the game, and in support of their respective quarterbacks and teams, Mayor Lazar, yesterday, accepted a gentlemen’s wager from Mayor Ward. The winning team of Super Bowl XLVII will determine which mayor must wear the opposing team’s jersey at their next Council meeting. Therefore, Mayor Ward would wear a 49ers jersey if the 49ers win and Mayor Lazar would wear a Ravens jersey if the Ravens win.
The mayors, on behalf of the communities they represent, wish all the players the best of luck. Still, someone has to win. We will just have to wait to see who will be wearing that jersey at the end of the day.
