Charlotte Bennett Schoen, Rotary District 7490 Chair Peace and Conflict Resolution spoke to the Park Ridge Rotary about the 2013 Peace Initiative Project for the district's Interact Clubs. The project will provide all Interact Clubs with the 2012 film THE LADY, giving a dramatic and moving account of Aung Sang Suu Kyi - global peace icon, Nobel Prize winner, recipient of US Congressional Gold Medal. The students will organize a May 2013 peace event, choosing art, drama, marches, writing, photography, performance (there is no wrong choice) as their medium; they will have the chance to compare American democracy and Burma's emerging democracy and the courage, integrity and bravery of Suu Kyi who was under house arrest for 15 of 21 years.
Multiple Rotary Clubs in the District have financially supported the purchase of the DVDs (The Lady) for this project; each town will get a copy of the the DVD for their Interact Club and it will be shared with their local Rotary club and library: "Using Our Liberty to Promote Burma's". Interact celebrates it's 50th Annivesary this year.
