www.ParamusPost.com has done a tour of a major shopping area. This week was the Paramus Park Mall, much smaller than the Westfield Garden State Plaza Shopping Center or the rapidly expanding Bergen Town Center, but still a factor in the weekly traffic generated by shoppers. With the exception of a few food establishments, which are allowed by law, the shopping center was deserted. We were able to drive around taking pictures without encountering traffic, an impossibility during the work week. For the past few Sundays,
Driving north on Route 17 also proved to be less populated, a tribute to the Paramus Blue Laws. To live or work in Paramus, one knows the terrific amount of vehicular traffic generated by our shopping centers. They also know that when Sunday comes, the air will be much cleaner and the driving will be simpler. Those working in Paramus but living elsewhere know the pleasures of having a Sunday free to spend with their families.
While other shopping areas are open in Bergen and Passaic Counties on Sunday. our shopping centers seem to thrive on a six day week. It make take planning to have everything one needs on Sunday, but this require little effort and a smattering of intelligence.
Even more so, if someone had to work on Sunday in Paramus, they would miss opportunities to view games on television like the Super Bowl.
