Gubernatorial candidate and State Senator Barbara Buono responded to Governor Christie's statement on the AshBritt contract:
"Once again, rather than responding to legitimate inquiries about why he chose a politically connected, more expensive contractor, Governor Christie has resorted to name-calling and bullying to deflect attention from the facts. According to the Newark Star-Ledger, AshBritt is 'paying its subcontractors at a fraction of the rate it receives from the state' and reaping the difference as profits. Local municipalities have clearly demonstrated that cheaper options were available and not chosen. The lack of transparency in the selection process is startling.
"It's time that Governor Christie release all communications and records surrounding the bidding process. It is going to require tens of billions of dollars to rebuild New Jersey and every person in the state deserves to know that relief funds are being spent efficiently and appropriately rather than being wasted on overpriced out-of-state contractors. I look forward to the findings from the Legislative Oversight Committee's investigation."
