West Brook Middle School is participating in Hoops for Heart on Feb. 12thand 13th. This is a fundraiser for the American Heart Association. The Heart Association serves the public with Lifesaving Courses, Education on Diet/ exercise, as well as research on Heart Disease.
Prior to the event Physical Education/ Health teachers educate the children on the anatomy of the Heart, and the function to deliver oxygenated/ nutrient rich blood to the muscles in order to make energy. We also educate students on how proper diet and exercise also keeps the Heart Healthy.
The Hoops for Heart event is the culmination of this education. Students collect donations for participating in a marathon Knockout tournament. The AHA touts that daily physical activity is required to keep your heart healthy, so playing in the basketball tournament meets this requirement and reinforces prior learning.
