Sunset Rotary Hosts Ellen Elias From The Center For Alcohol & Drug Resources

Ellen Elias and Tom Shea
The Sunset Rotary Club of Glen Rock, Paramus and Ridgewood, at their regular Wednesday meeting February 6th hosted special speaker Ellen Elias. Ms Elias is Vice President of The Center for Alcohol & Drug Resources. Contact information: 241 Main Street / Suite #600 Hackensack, NJ 07601 Phone(201) 488-8680 [email protected] Monday - Friday 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM. If you know of someone who is suffering from alcohol and/or drug abuse or dependency please contact the Center for Alcohol & Drug Abuse.
The Center is, a program of Children’s Aid and Family Services, provides substance abuse prevention, education, information, and referral services to county residents, businesses, schools, faith-based organizations, municipal alliances and social service agencies.

The Center is supported by grants, contracts and generous contributions from public and private donors. As a result, many of our services are offered to the public at no cost. The Center for Alcohol and Drug Resources is The Prevention Resource Center for Bergen County and towns East of the Passaic River in Passaic County.

Members were informed that while alcohol abuse is the most common drug for which people are admitted to treatment programs, prescription drugs and over-the-counter drugs are the fastest growing abuse problem. Ms Elias provided some startling statistics; someone dies from an overdose every 19 minutes; 25% of all the world’s prescription drugs are consumed in the U.S.A.; 1 out of 4 children live with a parent who uses illicit drugs; 80% of drug users work full time; alcohol abuse in children starts as early as 11; 95% of the time 15- 20 year olds consume 5 or more drinks at one sitting. Do you know anyone who falls into these categories?

Sunset Rotary Club meets every Wednesday at 6 PM in the Bone fish Grill, Paramus Park. The club raises funds and provides human resources for many worthy causes. Why not contact us and learn how you can become part of a seriously effective group that not only devotes much time and effort helping those in need but has great enjoyment doing it. Call our President Tom Shea at 201-447-4215 or Steve Wolferman at 210-262-5988 and ask about membership in our club, it may be the best call you make today.
