The Center is, a program of Children’s Aid and Family Services, provides substance abuse prevention, education, information, and referral services to county residents, businesses, schools, faith-based organizations, municipal alliances and social service agencies.
The Center is supported by grants, contracts and generous contributions from public and private donors. As a result, many of our services are offered to the public at no cost. The Center for Alcohol and Drug Resources is The Prevention Resource Center for Bergen County and towns East of the Passaic River in Passaic County.
Members were informed that while alcohol abuse is the most common drug for which people are admitted to treatment programs, prescription drugs and over-the-counter drugs are the fastest growing abuse problem. Ms Elias provided some startling statistics; someone dies from an overdose every 19 minutes; 25% of all the world’s prescription drugs are consumed in the U.S.A.; 1 out of 4 children live with a parent who uses illicit drugs; 80% of drug users work full time; alcohol abuse in children starts as early as 11; 95% of the time 15- 20 year olds consume 5 or more drinks at one sitting. Do you know anyone who falls into these categories?
