Presente.org condemns the recent statements of National Rifle Association President Wayne LaPierre regarding Latinos. LaPierre‘s statement that citizens need to use guns to protect themselves because “Latin American drug gangs have invaded every city of significant size in the United States,” is outrageous and deserves denunciation.
“Mr. LaPierre statements are not only based on misinformation and further demonize our community but they are an insult,” said Arturo Carmona, Executive Director of Presente.org. “Rather than bring the country together at a time when the nation debates violence caused by semi-automatic weapons, Mr. LaPierre and the NRA are trying to deflect their responsibility by scapegoating Latinos. His divisive statements would be amusing if they weren’t so dangerous.”
