Assembly Democrat Eustace to Host Presentation on “Green Infrastructure in New Jersey Communities”

38th Legislative District Invites Jeremiah Bergstrom from Rutgers to Speak in Maywood

Assemblyman Tim Eustace announces “Green Infrastructure for New Jersey Communities,” a presentation on ways communities can naturally manage storm water, reduce flooding risk to be held on Tuesday, February 26th in Maywood NJ.
The 38th District Democrats, Senator Bob M. Gordon and Assemblywoman Connie Wagner, will also attend the presentation. The event is open to all New Jersey residents interested in learning more on green infrastructure.

“The climate is changing rapidly and New Jersey communities must better prepare for the changes,” said Eustace (D- Bergen, Passaic). “We experienced this firsthand with Hurricane Sandy and subsequent storms. With more frequent and more extreme storms will come excessive, damaging flooding. It is a fact. New Jersey must explore new ways to manage excess water and protect our communities.”
Jeremiah Bergstrom of the Rutgers Cooperative Extension Water Resources Program will give the presentation on how communities can implement green infrastructure ideas to help reduce flooding risk. Bergstrom has extensive experience in environmental analysis and green community planning.
Green infrastructure is an interconnected network of open spaces and natural areas. Its projects help foster community cohesiveness by engaging all residents in the planning, planting and maintenance of the sites.
“Storms are expected to worsen in time,” added Eustace. “Exploring environmental preservation concepts such as green infrastructure and implementing some of its ideas may help lessen the impact of extreme weather occurrences on our communities in the future.”

The presentation will take place at the Maywood Public Library, 459 Maywood Avenue, Maywood NJ from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm. For more information, residents may contact the district office by email AsmEustace@njleg.org  or call (201) 576-9199.
