Applications Being Accepted for Curtain Call Award Showcasing Outstanding High School Operatic Talent
The John J. Cali School of Music at Montclair State University announced that the winner of the fourth annual Curtain Call Award will receive a full four-year scholarship to study at the school.
The operatic competition, hosted jointly by Montclair State and Opera New Jersey, is open to high school juniors and seniors on New Jersey. Applications are being accepted until April 15, 2013. Event finalists will perform in Montclair State’s Jed Leshowitz Recital Hall on Sunday, June 2 at 4:00 pm.
Opera New Jersey Director of Artistic Administration and Production Dustin Haugen said the purpose of the competition is to foster young singers’ interest in opera. “We’re excited to once again partner with Montclair State in this event to help young singers realize their music dreams.”
“Competitions like this that have scholarship support will encourage more and more younger artists to study classical singing,” said Dr. Robert Cart, Director of the John J. Cali School of Music.
Prior to the June 2 final, the five finalists will receive private coaching from the Director of Opera New Jersey's Victoria J. Mastrobuono Emerging Artists Program, as well as a free coaching session in operatic staging from Cali School of Music Professor Jeffrey Gall. In addition to the four-year scholarship to Montclair State’s Cali School, the Curtain Call Award winner will be invited by Opera New Jersey to participate in one of its 2013 summer season master classes.
Montclair State’s Public Relations Student Society of America is producing and promoting the program.
