Statement From Shaunna Thomas, Co-Founder Of Ultraviolet, On The Passage Of The Violence Against Women Act:
By Mel Fabrikant Saturday, March 02, 2013, 06:45 AM EST
"It is shameful that House Republicans allowed the Violence Against Women Act to expire last year and then spent the last few months insisting that some women just don't deserve protection from abuse. The bill finally passed but the fact remains the majority of House Republicans voted against the final bill. They sent a signal loud and clear that they don't believe women deserve protection. Women voters will remember this at the ballot box.
"Despite opposition from House Republicans we are thrilled this bill passed today. Because of it's passage, millions of women will be protected. Today would not have been possible if it were not for the political pressure our 380,000 members, and other progressives, put on Congress to act on this legislation."
