Gucci Brings Florentine Craftsmanship To Paramus

March 12, 2013 – Gucci will host a private cocktail party this evening at the House’s Paramus store to celebrate the “Handbag Artisan Corner.” The exclusive event will bring the craftsmanship of Gucci’s Florentine leather goods factory directly to its clientele, allowing guests to view skilled artisans assembling some of the House’s most iconic handbags. Lisa and Daphne Oz will host the evening, and a portion of sales proceeds will support Table to Table, a community-based food rescue program that collects food that would otherwise be wasted and delivers it to organizations that serve the hungry in Northern New Jersey.

The Gucci artisans will focus on the New Bamboo, New Jackie, Soft Stirrup, Stirrup and Soho bags in addition to small leather goods. The hand-crafted products will be available in exotic skins and exclusive colors and can be personalized with hand-embossed monogramming. In addition, each handbag will feature a special inside plaque embossed with the location and date. The Artisan Corner display will include custom work tables, a sewing machine, a leather stand, and metal tools,as well as additional background materials which illustrate the evolution of the products, from mood board to sketches.
The original Gucci Bamboo bag was created in 1947 and was reintroduced in the Spring Summer 2010 collection.

The New Bamboo is comprised of 130 separate pieces and is crafted the same way as the original, requiring two days of work to ensure its perfect details. Meanwhile, the New Jackie takes its cue from a 1960s style that became the preferred accessory for Jacqueline Onassis, who was photographed toting numerous versions. America’s former First Lady was so devoted to the style that the bag soon assumed the moniker ‘The Jackie.’ This fall marked the debut of the Soft Stirrup bag, a deconstructed version of the Stirrup bag – inspired by an iconic model from 1975. Boasting unparalleled craftsmanship, the Stirrup and Soft Stirrup bags both feature a spur closure and echo the House’s equestrian heritage. A new addition comes in the way of the Soho bag, a style distinguished by the interlocking G that appears embossed and stitched.

The Gucci artisans and Artisan Corner display will be in the Paramus store for public viewing March 12 – 14.
