Today, nearly 35,000 petitions from MoveOn.org, Presente.org, PICO Network, and Americas Voice were delivered by members and faith leaders to House Speaker John Boehner's House Office calling for a public censure of Rep. Dana Rohrabacher who yelled at and threatened deportation of 18-year-old undocumented student, Jessica Bravo, after she made an appointment to share her story about living in the country since the age of 3.
"Congressman Rohrabahcer's comments are not just offensive and disturbing" said Arturo Carmona, Executive Director of Presente.org. "His statements and his adamant refusal to apologize reflect that he is completely out-of-touch with political realities even members of his own party are realizing: Latinos should and must be treated with respect. All Latinos."
"Republicans can't have it both ways -- they can't pretend to woo Latino voters one day, and speak hatefully about immigrants the next. Hundreds of Rep. Rohrbacher's own constituents have called on Speaker Boehner to condemn his actions." -- Victoria Kaplan, campaign director at MoveOn.org.
