Berman, a junior at Tenafly High School, has performed in other theatrical productions, including Circle of Friends at the American Girl Place Theater and People Garden at the off-Broadway York Theatre. A newcomer to singing opera, she has appeared in Tenafly High School musicals, madrigals, and select choir concerts, including three that performed in Europe. Berman, who studies classical voice at the Manhattan School of Music Pre-college Program, has sung in cabarets such as Pianos and Kidz Cabaret.
Since joining the Verismo Opera Chorus, Berman has learned staging, vocal technique, among others. “It has been a wonderful experience. I have learned more about vowel pronunciation and using the body to support the voice. Everyone is very supportive and dedicated,” Berman said.
“We are delighted to have Melanie Berman join Verismo Opera for this production. The Verismo Opera Chorus welcomes more young singers to come and get 'real opera' experience with us,” said Chorus Director Mara Waldman.
