Washington, D.C. – U.S. Rep. Bill Pascrell, Jr., a member of the House Budget Committee, released the following statement today after House Republicans passed the Ryan budget by a vote of 221-207. For the third year in a row, all House Democrats voted against the Ryan-Republican budget blueprint:
“The Ryan budget is nothing more than the same policies the American people rejected last November, yet today is received the support from nearly every House Republican," said Rep. Pascrell. "According to the non-partisan Tax Policy Center, the tax cuts in the Republican budget would cost nearly $6 trillion in lost federal revenue over the next decade. And who would benefit? The wealthiest corporations and the highest income Americans. Democrats put forth a budget alternative that reduces the deficit in a balanced way that strengthens our middle class, but this approach, endorsed by Americans at the polls, was rejected. A slash and burn approach to our budget is not the way to promote prosperity."
