In response to the Christie Administration’s decision to award a 15-year contract to privatize the New Jersey State Lottery marketing and sales operations, Democratic gubernatorial candidate and State Senator Barbara Buono (D-Metuchen) released the following statement:
"Governor Christie's administration has forced this contract on New Jersey's taxpayers with almost no transparency. Their evasiveness in answering basic questions about why our state's 4th largest revenue source should be privatized speaks volumes about how bad this will be for New Jersey. Moreover, the state only received one, politically connected bidder, which means New Jersey's taxpayers are getting a raw deal.
"The Governor has avoided any independent review of the deal by leaving the legislature out of the process. I will fight any effort by Christie to circumvent the legislature and unilaterally privatize a major state resource that goes to support kids, veterans and the disabled."
