Pediatric patients in the Joseph M. Sanzari Children’s Hospital at Hackensack University Medical Center received surprise visits by WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment) Superstars and Divas Brodus Clay, Tensai, Cameron and Naomi who took time out for a visit before their WrestleMania extravaganza in early April. The WWE team was also joined by New York Giants linebacker Mark Herzlich and Giants legend George Martin.
The sports stars signed autographs, handed out toys, joined in photos and created a memorable day for the patients and their families.
“We’re putting smiles on kids’ faces and they put one on ours,” Naomi said during the visit.
Clay, who enthusiastically joined the kids to play the board game Sorry! said, “I tend to leave the celebrity at the door and end up playing games with the kids. I was in an epic battle of Sorry! and I came up short. It was an uphill battle the entire match. It’s really a great way to kick off WrestleMania. I’m honored to be part of it.”
Herzlich engaged in conversations with kids of all ages during the visit. “We had a great time cheering the kids up. It made my day,” he said.
“Four years ago, I was diagnosed with bone cancer after my season at Boston College,” he said. “I know what these kids are going through, how boring and strenuous it is, and how scary it is to be in a hospital room a long time. I know what it’s like to have people visit. To have us come today, just talk to them, gives them something that they can look forward to and be happy about. It is what helps you to recover.”
