Paramus Elk Chip Morgan has been overseeing the Paramus ELKS Student In Government program for many years. In addition to all the preparatory efforts, he shepherds them over to Paramus Borough Hall to meet with the Mayor and various Department heads. He then makes sure that they are there for the evening Mayor and Council meeting where they assume the Council roles of government and also appoint 'officials' to the various municipal offices.
Acting Mayor was Liam Coohill who handled his position with aplomb. Sitting on the dais along with the Junior Mayor were: Borough Clerk William Frasco, Council members Jenna Gallagher, Alyssa Romanos, Rebecca Corrado, Jennifer Jeon, Michael Giannella, and Aviv Liani along with Borough Attorney ic Waxman. Each of these members of the Junior Ruling Government were backed and coached by their actual counterparts.
The process of government was presented to them in reality as the Mayor called for election to the following positions: Police Chief Alyssa Bogosian, Fire Chief Danielle Minervini, Tax Ollector Conor Donnelly, Health Officer Monet Shinohara, Building Inspector Alexa Maria, Recreation Commissioner Spencer Lubash and Borough Administrator Rafael Yeganeh. One stands in awe of these students from East Brook and West Brook schools incorporating the 5th to the 8th Grade.
Chip Morgan and the Mayor and Council are to be congratulated for introducing government to these middle school students.
