Paramus Sunrise Rotary Club has had one GoL (Gift of Life) in its five year history. Starting the sixth year President Sophie Stone will triple that effort. At the latest meeting Stone advanced a plan to have three GoL children with medical defects operated upon. While this normally requires six thousand dollars per child, she has arranged this at a cost of three thousand, five hundred dollars to her club.
In order to accomplish this she has reached out to her friends, Trinity Presbyterian Church, her church, other organizations and friends. As a matter of fact, Honorary Member Ray Wells was present at the meeting and volunteered one thousand dollars to help the cause. The cost will be shared by his son, Paramus Sunrise Rotary Club member Tom Wells.
To make it even more special, two Honorary PSRC members, Mayor Rich LaBarbiera and First Lady MaryAnn LaBarbiera have volunteered to host the first Gift of Life Child, a 4½ year old girl. After three sons, this will also be a first for the first family of Paramus. The air tickets, visa and passport expense will be borne by Sophie's friends. Mary is due to arrive in Paramus at the beginning of October.
The second GoL child will be done overseas by Australian Operation Open heart. www.ooh.org.au in co-sponsorship with Trinity Presbyterian Church and Paramus Sunrise Rotary Club.
The third child, also due in October, will be Htoo Htoo, a 4½ month old. and will be hosted by Sophie Stone and her family.
In her short term served of less than two months, Paramus Sunrise Rotary Club President Sophie Stone has managed to accomplish all this!
