Buono Unveils Policy Platform to Benefit New Jersey Women

Democratic gubernatorial candidate Barbara Buono outlined her policy platform to lift up New Jersey women. Between Governor Christie’s failed economic policies and his out-of-touch, radical social agenda, New Jersey women have been left behind over the past three and a half years. With Senator Buono’s leadership and experience as a staunch advocate on issues facing women, New Jersey women will once again have a Governor who will stand up for their values.
“As a working mother of six, I understand the issues facing New Jersey women and have spent my life working to lift up our women and their families,” Senator Buono said. “My focus as Governor will be ensuring that women have the means to support themselves and their families and that women in New Jersey are treated equally under the law. Women have a clear choice in this election between more of Governor Christie’s backwards agenda and progressive policies that will move New Jersey women and families forward. Now is the time to answer the urgent call for change.”
Senator Buono will discuss the policy platform at today’s roundtable in Irvington.
As Governor, Senator Buono will make women’s health care a priority:
• Ensure full funding for women’s health care and family planning services that Governor Christie has vetoed FIVE times.
Senator Buono will be a leader who represents New Jersey values on issues important to women:
• Advocate for pro-choice values and policies.
New Jersey women currently earn 78 cents for every dollar earned by a male counterpart. While Governor Christie senselessly vetoed a pay equity bill, Senator Buono will strengthen Equal Pay laws to eliminate the wage gap and encourage women to enter high-paying careers in STEM fields.
With working families struggling to make ends meet, Senator Buono will champion policies that put money back in parents’ pockets and help them balance the demands of work and family:
• Raise the minimum wage and tie it to cost of living increases.
• Ensure workers have access to earned sick days.
Our children must be given every opportunity to gain basic skills at an early age. Senator Buono will:
• Expand early childhood education and implement full-day kindergarten.
• Restore funding for before and after-school programs.
