THE MASTER GARDENERS OF BERGEN COUNTY Presentation “A Rose by Any Other Name” How Plants Get Their Names.
The next meeting of the Bergen County Master Gardeners, will feature a special program: “A Rose By Any Other Name” - How Plants get their Names presented by Susan Petro, DVM, School of Theoretical & Applied Sciences at Ramapo College NJ.
What’s in a name? Have you ever wondered why you need to bother with scientific names, which often seem so confusing? Join Master Gardeners for an informative presentation to learn the history of the scientific naming of living things, why it was necessary and how it is done.
Dr. Susan Petro has a doctor of veterinary medicine degree from Cornell University's College of Veterinary Medicine and was in a small animal practice for many years, but since 1994, Dr. Petro has been teaching biology at Ramapo College of New Jersey. Dr. Petro has also received certificates in Field Botany and Plant Systematics from the New York Botanical Garden and oversees the care for the demonstration plants in Ramapo College's greenhouse.
The presentation will be held on: Tuesday September 24, 2013 at 7:30pm, at The County Administration Building, One Bergen Plaza, County Place, Hackensack, NJ. in the Learning Center, Room #460 on the 4th floor, Home of the County Extension Office.
