"Best new band I've heard in a while. So good." - Sean Moeller, Daytrotter
"On the one hand, The Lawsuits are solidly part of the well-established Philly roots music scene. Their guitars twang, their vocals harmonize...On the other hand, they're a lot more, interweaving elements of reggae, a 60s pop flair, 80s rock anthemic refrains, highly literate lyrics and swelling arty crescendos. It's a heady, eclectic blend that gets its first full-length showcase in the record presently wrapping up at producer Bill Moriarty's East Falls studio"- John Vetesse, 88.5 WXPN
"From what I've heard of 'Cool Cool Cool,' the heavy piano rock and brass instruments promise to make their newest album another exciting round of musical chairs" - Stephen Krock, That Music Mag
Once described as a "schizophrenic mix of modern Americana", The Lawsuits don't stop there - interweaving elements of reggae, 60's pop flair, and 80's anthemic refrains, woven together by intricate lyrics. Check out The Lawsuits' Daytrotter Session, here: http://bit.ly/15Rpwb6.
Consisting of Brian Dale Allen Strouse (songwriter/vocals/guitar), Vanessa Winters (vocals), Brendan Cunningham (bass), and Josh Friedman (drums), The Lawsuits play with an energy that's infectious, charging through changeups and reveling in every solo, making the playing of each song look as enjoyable as it is to listen to. The songs are complex and insightful in a way that recalls a time when music was more pure, but with a progressive and lighthearted style that is executed with apparent ease. Having shared the stage with the likes of Good Old War, Yo La Tengo, Frank Turner, Maps & Atlases, The Growlers, Freedy Johnston, J Roddy Walston and the Business, etc., The Lawsuits have performed at notable hometown venues such as the Theater of the Living Arts, Rittenhouse Square Concerts in the Park, Johnny Brenda's, World Café Live, in addition to NYC's Gramercy Theater. Being named Tri State Indie's 2012 Philadelphia Indie Band of the Year, the band has already been featured in WXPN's Key Studio Sessions and will be releasing a Daytrotter Session in the months to come.
"Whenever I describe 'Cool Cool Cool', I say, 'It's all over the place, but it all fits together,' which truly represents our sound" shares Winters. With the bouncy pop track, "Onion", you can feel the amount of layers that fit so perfectly together. The album then takes the listener straight into "Dreaming #26", a track reminiscent of Bob Dylan, in which both the music and lyrics were written and recorded simultaneously on the spot. Flowing right into "Long Drive Home", you get a feel of Winters' soulful vocals, showcasing the seductive slow rock blues this band is also capable of. The band tells us, "'Cool Cool Cool' is the most accomplished and fully realized vision that we've ever completed."
The Lawsuits will release their new album, Cool Cool Cool, on October 1st, 2013.
