~ Window Fashion Leader’s Transition to Take Place Over Next 12 Months ~
PEARL RIVER, N.Y., Sept. 30, 2013 – Hunter Douglas Inc., the leading manufacturer and marketer of custom window fashions in North America, has announced that, for its Hunter Douglas brand products, the company will be phasing out of all remaining two-step distribution relationships with independent, third-party fabricators and will fully transition to direct, one-step distribution through its Hunter Douglas Fabrication Division.
This transition will take place gradually over the next 12 months and is expected to be completed in the third quarter of 2014. In the interim, the independent, third-party fabricators will continue to be fully operational and will supply and support their customers as they always have.
The Hunter Douglas Fabrication Division, which, at present, directly supports and services most of the Hunter Douglas brand business, operates out of three large, state-of-the-art custom fabrication facilities strategically located in Cumberland, Md.; Salt Lake City, Utah; and West Sacramento, Calif., as well as five customer service centers and 11 dealer training and service centers. The division is closely supported by eight Hunter Douglas brand manufacturing and R&D facilities, all based in the U.S.
Marv Hopkins, President & CEO of Hunter Douglas, said, “Our decision to bring the remaining 15 percent of our brand distribution business into Hunter Douglas is the right decision, but it was not an easy one. We have had extraordinarily close, successful and long-term relationships with each of our independent fabricator partners. They have always been much more than customers; they have been our great friends, trusted allies and valued advisors, and we are most appreciative of all they have done for Hunter Douglas and our industry over the years. Now, we and they are strongly committed to a smooth, seamless transition that will assure continuing outstanding service and support to all Hunter Douglas brand dealers and consumers throughout the process.”
Hopkins further stated that, “Hunter Douglas is making the transition to a fully integrated distribution model to more effectively and efficiently serve its valued dealer customers and the American consumer, and to better meet the many future challenges of the marketplace. As the industry leader in quality, service, design and innovation, Hunter Douglas will speak with one voice and become even more closely connected to the entire Hunter Douglas network of dealers and designers so as to more accurately anticipate and rapidly respond to their needs and to new opportunities as they arise.”
