Bryan Gaus, the latest Senior General Manager at Westfield Garden State Plaza Shopping Center Has been here for several months. Getting to interview him took all that time and caused one to wonder if he was making himself impervious to the citizens of Paramus. Today all was explained! Bryan is human and had a lot to cope with during his transition from his last position with Westfield in Connecticut. One wonders how he could cope with all the adversity that was thrown at him as a welcoming present.
Having his family, his wife and two sons, back in CT, had him living out of a hotel room and visiting them when he could. That was solved recently when he finally got them relocated to a residence in Bergen County. Commuting and family loneliness was solved! Arriving in Paramus, he was immediately beset with budget problems which devoured almost all of his time. He was fortunate, however, to have Lisa Herrmann back as Senior Merchandise Manager. Lisa is well known and liked in Paramus and has been very active in the Chamber of Commerce as well as Rotary.
When Bryan Gaus and I finally met, he was nice enough to apologize and explain the reasons behind the few months delay and the many cancellations of our scheduled meetings. During the discussion, he proved that although he was readily prepared for his stint here, he has a sense of humor and is civic minded. The next big event for the shopping center is the completion of the new indoor garage which, according to Gaus, is on schedule and will be able to open on November 15th for the shopping season.
That first hurdle over, he then has to look forward to the addition of a few more of the top notch stores which will be added after the garage opening. Not one to stop there, he is getting ready to take Westfield Garden State Plaza Shopping Center to the next level.
