“We are proud of the significant achievement earned by Lorraine Malfitano and her team of payroll operations professionals,” said Robert C. Garrett, president and chief executive officer of the Hackensack University Health Network. “They have demonstrated a commitment to this essential project, advancing payroll operations at the medical center while modeling for the wider community with extraordinary skill.”
The Prism Award is granted annually in four categories; technology, processes, management and overall best practices. HackensackUMC’s Payroll Department was honored for demonstrating best practices in management. Lorraine Malfitano, CPP, director of payroll operations at HackensackUMC, attended an APA Fall Forum in Long Beach, CA where she accepted the award on behalf of her team.
“I was bursting with excitement,” said Malfitano. “It’s such a prestigious honor within the payroll industry; the team and I worked really hard on this project and it’s great to be recognized.” Malfitano and her team were singled out for their successful conversion to a robust time and labor system, creating a new position devoted exclusively to training employees, and eliminating manual processes while going nearly paperless.
“I have an amazing group,” she said. “At the end of the day, I could have all the vision in the world but it would be meaningless without the right team supporting it and dedicated to achieving our goals.” She is also quick to recognize those at HackensackUMC on the executive and technical levels who helped to facilitate and implement the project. “The huge support and the special partnership we have with IT really made this happen.”
Directing a team that has evolved with efficiency, Malfitano is proud of the leadership role HackensackUMC is playing within the payroll industry. “You can’t be afraid of change,” she reflected. “If it’s going to benefit the organization, you need to move forward.”
