Democratic gubernatorial candidate Barbara Buono issued the following statement: "The defacing of a campaign sign in Edison is deeply offensive and appalling to all Americans who believe in equality, tolerance and inclusion. Bigotry and hatred have no place in New Jersey, plain and simple. Our state is proud of its diversity and inclusiveness and respects all religions and cultures. While a hateful minority seeks to divide and intimidate our state, our mutual respect and shared values are far more powerful than any one act. We must continue to work together to break down the barriers of hate in our local communities to create a New Jersey that is welcoming to all."
