A New Psycho-Educational Group For Girls: Food, Feelings, And Body Image
By Mel Fabrikant Wednesday, October 09, 2013, 06:00 PM EDT
Eating disorders are on the rise among girls in their early to late teens. You may know someone who may not fit the diagnostic criteria for an eating disorder, yet displays some of the traits associated with it - such as frequent vomiting, excessive exercise, negative body image, and anxiety.
Food, Feelings & Body Image is a new psycho-educational group designed to help young girls avoid progression to an eating disorder.
In most cases, disordered eating is a way of coping with underlying stressors. This CarePlus group is designed to support young girls as they navigate psychological, cultural, and physiological pressures. The idea is to encourage them to find a healthy and positive balance as their minds and bodies grow, and provide appropriate intervention to help prevent progression to an eating disorder.
We will explore...
> Ways to cope more positively
> How to regulate feelings
> Negative body image beliefs
> Physiological stressors
> Developmental body changes
> Healthy nutrition options
This group meets on Mondays from 6:30-7:30pm at our Fair Lawn location starting October 28th.
Registration is $375 for all 8 weeks, including intake.
