With the current economic crisis many of us have had to cut back on things and learn how to budget and save. Decorating our homes is an essential need that doesn’t always have to be expensive, and for those who are in desperate need of some household maintenance right now but simply cannot afford to do it, then any tips and tricks you can find are useful!
Just a lick of paint!
Painting our walls is one of the simplest things we can do that will make a huge difference and improvement. Although Paint doesn’t come cheap, once coated on it should last for many years before it needs re-touching again. When buying paint it is very easy to go for the cheapest option if you’re on a tight budget however by doing so it will probably mean you will take twice as long to do the job and it could mean that you need to buy more because cheap paint is often very thin and will require several coats. A more quality branded paint will cover with lesser coats and maybe even save you some left-over’s for another room, which is always a bonus!
Cover up the walls!
There was a stage when wall papering was considered old-fashioned and a big no no for home decor, but its relieving to know that that is now a thing of the past! These days’ wallpapering has become very fashionable again and that’s great for anyone who does not have perfectly plastered and smooth walls. Wallpapering can hide all imperfections and save on the costly repairs of trying to smooth and straighten things out. Wallpaper is also a great way of adding transformation to a room without going over the top; you can opt to paper only one wall which is great for creating a focal point to the room and great because it won’t cost you much money to do it. You can buy a quality Roll of wallpaper for as little as £10 to create a perfect feature wall for your new decor.
Re think what you have!
A simple but effective way of transforming a room is to re think what you already have. You may not like what you have but have you ever thought about the fact that it may be because of its situation, is it hidden under clutter right now? Is it plunged up a corner doing nothing? If yes then maybe it’s time to de- clutter and pay a visit to the charity shop with your unwanted bits and bobs. Then try rearranging what you have left to see if it makes any difference, I bet you will be surprised!
Instead of throwing out all your scratched tables, chairs and lamp commerce items why not trying some simple repair jobs? Touch up the paintwork or sand down and start again to give the furniture some new lease of life, not only that you also manage to create something unique-bonus!
