Glen Rock Surgeon Thomas N. Ahlborn, M.D., Joins Valley Medical Group and is Named Chair of Surgical Services

Dr. Ahlborn’s surgical practice has been located at 385 South Maple Avenue in Glen Rock since 1987. He continues to see patients there.
Valley Medical Group (VMG) brings together Valley Health System-employed physicians based at The Valley Hospital in Ridgewood, the Robert and Audrey Luckow Pavilion in Paramus, other outpatient facilities, seven primary and urgent care centers, and medical practices throughout the community. Dr. Ahlborn’s surgical practice is one of a number of primary care and specialty care practices acquired by Valley Health System within the past two years to provide patients residing in communities served by Valley quality medical care now and in the future.

As Chair of Surgical Services for Valley Medical Group, Dr. Ahlborn also serves on the Physician Leadership Council with four other Valley physicians. Council members and other Valley physicians and surgeons will be responsible for developing strategic plans, priorities, and annual goals and objectives for the group, as well as overseeing all patient satisfaction, quality, and financial and business initiatives and operations.
“The Physician Leadership Council will work to expand the medical and surgical services at The Valley Hospital and to continue the excellent quality care that is a hallmark of the entire Valley Health System,” says Dr. Ahlborn.
A magna cum laude graduate of Harvard College and a graduate of Cambridge University in England (Rotary International Fellowship for Graduate Study Abroad), Dr. Ahlborn earned his medical degree from the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in 1980. During the next six years, he completed his general surgical training at Columbia-Presbyterian
Medical Center, completing an internship and residency (1986), serving as chief resident (1984-1985) and then administrative chief resident (1985-1986), and then completing a fellowship in vascular surgery (1986). He is board-certified in general surgery by the American Board of Surgery.
Dr. Ahlborn joined The Valley Hospital on January 1, 1987. He has served on numerous hospital committees and was a medical staff officer and medical staff president. He was a member of the hospital’s Board of Trustees from 2004 to 2010, and was also director of the Department of Surgery from 2003 to 2010.
