Englewood Hospital and Medical Center Earns Distinction as Top Performer on Key Quality Measures™

-Joint Commission Recognition for Excellence in Heart Failure, Heart Attack, Pneumonia and Surgical Care-
(Englewood, NJ, October 31, 2013) – Englewood Hospital and Medical Center (EHMC) was named among the nation’s Top Performers on Key Quality Measures, a prestigious designation awarded by The Joint Commission, the country’s leading accreditor of health care organizations.
The Medical Center is one of only three acute care hospitals in Bergen County and one of 26 hospitals in New Jersey recognized for its outstanding performance in using evidence-based clinical processes that are shown to improve care for certain conditions.

EHMC earned the distinction for attaining and sustaining excellence in accountability measures for heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia and surgical care. Each accountability measure represents an evidence-based practice, such as giving aspirin at arrival for heart attack patients or giving antibiotics one hour before surgery. The ratings are based on data reported to The Joint Commission in 2012.

“Englewood Hospital and Medical Center and all the Top Performer hospitals have demonstrated an exceptional commitment to quality improvement and they should be proud of their achievement,” says Mark R. Chassin, M.D., FACP, M.P.P., M.P.H., president and chief executive officer, The Joint Commission. “We have much to celebrate this year. Nearly half of our accredited hospitals have attained or nearly attained the Top Performer distinction. This truly shows that we are approaching a tipping point in hospital quality performance that will directly contribute to better health outcomes for patients.”

“We are pleased to receive this recognition from The Joint Commission once again,” said Kathy Kaminsky, MS, RN, Senior Vice President of Clinical Effectiveness and Chief Quality Office at EHMC. “The Medical Center implemented an evidence-based approach so that our patients can avoid unnecessary complications and enjoy the best possible outcomes. Each member of our healthcare team is dedicated to this process. Our commitment is evident in this new report and will remain at the forefront of every effort to provide the safest, highest quality care available.”
