Bipartisan Policy Center's Rebecca Tallent Will Lead Immigration Efforts for House

Today, the Bipartisan Policy Center (BPC) announced that its director of immigration policy, Rebecca Tallent, will be joining the office of Speaker John Boehner to work on immigration reform in the U.S. House of Representatives. Tallent will start in the Speaker's office, December 4.

“Speaker Boehner could not have chosen a better person to help House leadership develop effective immigration reform legislation,” said Haley Barbour, former governor of Mississippi and co-chair of BPC’s Immigration Task Force. “Our work at the Bipartisan Policy Center demonstrates that it’s possible to develop immigration policy that addresses the interests of conservative Republicans, reform advocates and everyone in between. Speaker Boehner’s choice to hire Becky is affirmation of his strong desire to move legislation in 2014.”

“The House is going to continue to chart its own course on immigration reform. Becky understands the issues – both those that should be on the table and those that have derailed past reform efforts,” said Jason Grumet, BPC’s president. “Becky’s recent experience forging solutions among BPC’s diverse task force members will serve her and Speaker Boehner well in the months ahead. She will be a crucial resource in crafting legislation that can pass the House and be signed by the president.”

“Becky is very knowledgeable on the policy, politically astute and highly respectful of the legitimate differences people bring to this debate,” said Henry Cisneros, co-chair of BPC’s Immigration Task Force and former secretary of Housing and Urban Development. “Speaker Boehner can count on the entire BPC task force to be supportive of his efforts to adopt effective immigration reform.”

In 2014, BPC’s Immigration Task Force will build on this year’s work by conducting analyses and developing policy recommendations to support congressional action. The task force is co-chaired by Governor Barbour, Secretary Cisneros, former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, and former Governor Ed Rendell.
