Truck Accident On Route 17 North Snarls Traffic

On Friday, December 6, 2013 at 6:42 AM, Paramus Police And Fire Department units responded to Route 17 northbound between Kalisa Way and A&S Drive (near the Home Depot) for a report of a truck fire.
Arriving units found heavy fire in the 2005 Freightliner tractor trailer owned by Global Enterprises of Miami Florida. The truck was fully loaded with watermelons, cantaloupes and other fresh produce. The fire appears to have originated in the brakes of the tractor. The driver of the vehicle Sandra Castiblanco, 38 yoa, of Miami Florida was not injured. Route 17 northbound was completely shut down until approximately 7:30 am at which time only the left lane was reopened. Police diverted northbound traffic onto Sears Drive. The left lane of Route 17 southbound was also shutdown until 7:15 am.
As of 10:50 am only the left lane of Route 17 on the northbound side is open, there are heavy delays in the area. Southbound is completely open. The entire highway is expected to be reopened by 2:00 pm. Paramus Police, New Jersey State Police and NJ DOT are on the scene.
