WASHINGTON - Today, U.S. Rep. Bill Pascrell, Jr. (D-NJ-09) released the following statement regarding reports that a senior member of Governor Christie's staff had advance knowledge of a plan to shut down local access lanes last September to the George Washington in Fort Lee, which falls within Rep. Pascrell's Congressional District.
"Throughout this investigation I've remained quiet in order to allow the facts to come to light. After today’s revelations I can no longer remain silent. I am outraged that the safety of my constituents was callously jeopardized to inflict political retribution. It's time for the Governor to stop with the mockery and the denials and take responsibility for what his administration has done here in Fort Lee and perhaps elsewhere in New Jersey."
Immediately following initial reports of traffic issues at the George Washington Bridge last September, Rep. Pascrell wrote to then Port Authority Deputy Executive Director Bill Baroni requesting an explanation for the unscheduled lane closures.
