Julie Gilmore from Dayton, Ohio, lost her 15-year retail job after the company she worked for closed down. With jobs scarce and money tight, the 48-year-old mother of two wasn’t sure what to do next. After visiting an elderly friend who was receiving in-home care, Julie was inspired to become a caregiver.
For more than a year, Julie has been caring for the elderly in her new job as a SYNERGY HomeCare caregiver. While the national unemployment rate has dropped from a peak of 10 percent to 7 percent, there are still 10.3 million people who are currently unemployed, nearly half of which have been without a job for more than six months, according to the U.S. Department of Labor.
