If you want to stay ahead of the reading curve, be sure and get a copy of The Good Suicides by Antonio Hill. The book is scheduled to be published on June 17th by The Crown Publishing Company. You may remember this author from his first novel, The Summer of Dead Toys, also a gripper. Antonio Hill has become the master of suspense on a level to rival most famous mystery authors.
Taking place in his native Spain, the reader has to adapt to the towns and customs that are distinctive to his native Barcelona. Melded into a decline in the economy, Hill travels along many different paths to knit the plot together. He feeds just enough information to keep the reader anxiously going from one chapter to the next without having to resort to cheap and rutty journalism. My only objection was the continued usage of one four letter word. But, I guess that is the more modern way!
The main plot centers around a cosmetic company run by twins. Within this fairly large company, diverse points of view and character are brought out. As the plot thickens, more and more internal affairs are discussed and examined. Inspector Hector Salgado, his main protagonist, is also a man with a past. This interweaves into the story.
As in The Summer of Dead Toys, Antonio Hill has once again left us with a socko cliffhanger ending. Read the book, you will agree!
