Ammunition Magazine Limit, Drug Treatment, Moratorium on Replacing Landline Telephone Services, Bedbug Eradication, Fire Safety & Foreclosure Prevention Top Thursday Assembly Hearings

 Reducing maximum capacity of ammunition magazines to 10 rounds, drug treatment in state correctional facilities, a moratorium on replacement of copper-based landline phone service with wireless service, bedbug eradication, fire safety in new homes and helping residents avoid foreclosures top Thursday’s Assembly committee action.
The hearings are scheduled to start at 10 a.m. and will be streamed live at:
Highlights include:
• A2006 (Greenwald/Quijano/Eustace/Johnson/Jasey) - Reduces maximum capacity of ammunition magazines to 10 rounds. 1 p.m. Law and Public Safety.

• A2295 (Prieto/Jimenez) - Requires Division of Addiction Services to grant residential drug treatment program licenses to certain programs operating in state correctional facilities and county jails. 1 p.m. Law and Public Safety.

• The Assembly Telecommunications and Utilities committee at 10:30 a.m. will take testimony on issues relating to new or developing wireless technologies that may be used to replace copper-based landline telephone service.

• It will then consider A2459 (Benson/Chivukula) - Establishes one-year moratorium on replacement of copper-based landline telephone service with non-copper-based landline or wireless telephone service; requires BPU to report to Governor and Legislature.

• A1578 (Spencer/Tucker/Sumter) - Establishes procedures to prevent and eradicate bedbug infestations in certain residential property. 2 p.m. Housing and Community Development.

• A1698 (Wisniewski/Green/Jasey) - Requires fire suppression systems in new single and two family homes. 2 p.m. Housing and Community Development.

• A1994 (Watson Coleman) - Creates Foreclosure Prevention and Neighborhood Stabilization Revolving Trust Fund; places temporary surcharge on mortgage foreclosure complaints. 2 p.m. Housing and Community Development.

• A1007 (Benson/Riley) - Requires DCA to establish procedures for inspection and abatement of mold hazards in residential buildings and school facilities, and certification programs for mold inspectors and mold hazard abatement workers. 2 p.m. Housing and Community Development.

• A1447 (Diegnan/Egan) - Requires health insurance carriers to use standard explanation of benefits form. 10 a.m. Financial Institutions and Insurance.
• A2770 (Conaway/Benson) - Clarifies that EMT’s can administer Naloxone to prevent opioid-related overdoses. 10 a.m. Health and Senior Services.
• The Assembly Higher Education Committee will hold a 10:30 a.m. hearing on remedial education needs for New Jersey colleges and universities.

• The Assembly Health and Senior Services Committee at 10 a.m. will hear testimony on issues concerning prescription drug diversion and potential reforms to the Prescription Monitoring Program.

• A-668 (Cryan/Quijano/Coughlin/Lagana) - Requires institutions of higher education to provide to prospective students certain cost, loan, and debt information in financial aid shopping sheet. 10:30 a.m. Higher Education.
