When you decide to enroll in an English language program, there are several options to choose from. Each one has a different focus that may correlate with your academic or career needs. The following are some of the programs that may be available at your English language school.
CSI ESL school is a great institution for students to learn English in preparation for a business and computer networking degree. It is generally open to students at every level: beginning, intermediate, and advanced. Each level offers training in English as a second language which is focused both in the classroom and on the computer. Throughout the course, the material covers different subject areas including:
- Reading Strategies
With lectures from instructors, materials on the computer, and projects, students can learn English quickly and accomplish their goals. At the end of the program, students should have improved their skills in listening, writing, and reading comprehension.
Advanced level ESL students may benefit from taking an academic English program. These college-level classes are designed to focus on critical writing skills, reading for academic purposes, and communication skills. These skills are all preparatory courses for participating in American classrooms. There are generally three different tracks students can choose from:
- General Writing. This track focuses on developing effective writing skills so that students can communicate through essays, homework assignments, term papers, and tests. Students will learn how to make persuasive arguments and have clean writing.
- Literature. Focusing on comprehension skills, this track prepares students to read essays, novels, and textbooks outside the classroom to prepare for discussions.
- General Communication. Oral presentations and classroom involvement are often used in this track to develop listening and speaking skills to prepare for college courses.
For those students who wish to succeed in the business world, a business English program may be the way to go. Although this type of program is not specifically an English language program, it allows students to develop helpful skills in professional communication. Knowing English is often expected now in business careers, especially ones that are multinational based. Students who wish to participate in this type of program usually needs to have advanced English language skills. Instead of learning English, students will use their previous learning to advance their professional skills in business.
Business English programs are usually vigorous and fast paced, but most will allow students with F-1 visas to work legally while they are learning essential business techniques. Along with learning and developing skills in the classroom, students will also be able to participate in internships, working in different industry positions. Some of these positions may be offered in a specific program such as:
- Customer Service Specialist
- Administrative Assistant
- Hospitality Industry Professional
By choosing an English language program, such as intensive English or academic English, students can develop needed skills in communication, comprehension, and writing in order to succeed in U.S. college or university classrooms. On the other hand, if students already have some of these advanced English language skills, they can choose to attend a business English program in order to develop more professional skills in order to succeed in their chosen career.
