The Paramus Police Department announces the arrest of Ahmet Islami , 21 yoa, of Haledon NJ, for burglary and theft. The arrest came about as the result of a lengthy investigation by detectives from the Paramus Police Department Special Investigations Unit. Detective Michael Kelly and Detective Sergeant Frank Scott lead the investigation.
From December 2013 through February 2014 the Borough of Paramus and surrounding communities were struck by a rash of residential home burglaries. On January 2, 2014 the Hawthorne Police Department arrested Islami while committing a residential burglary in their community. On April 21, 2014 Paramus detectives had developed enough evidence linking Islami to at least two Paramus residential burglaries. The first occurred on December 16, 2013 in the area of Godwin Road. The second occurred on December 20, 2013 in the area of Mason Place. Detectives continue to investigate the other burglaries that occurred during that time period.
On April 21, 2014 Islami was arrested at his parents Haledon home. He was transported to Paramus Police Headquarters where he was booked, charged and then released on $10,000.00 bail. The defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
