PATERSON - U.S. Rep. Bill Pascrell, Jr. (D-NJ-09) issued the following statement today regarding President Obama's announcement that new sanctions will be imposed on Russia over their increased aggression in Ukraine. Rep. Pascrell was briefed late last week by the White House on developments in Ukraine.
"I want to commend the Ukrainian government for its efforts to resolve the conflict in their homeland. It is clear to me that the Ukrainian people are committed to offering real concessions to peacefully respond to this conflict while Mr. Putin has done nothing but bring it closer to the precipice. I commend President Obama for working with our allies in Europe to expand our sanctions regime, which is already taking a toll on the Russian economy, in the event of continued Russian aggression. We continue to stand with the Ukrainian people in the face of this illegal behavior by the Russian government."
