Paramus Police Charge Suspect With Burglary

The Paramus Police Department with the assistance of the Edgewater Police Department announces the arrest of Mike A. Alvarez, 23 yoa , of North Bergen NJ, for burglary to auto. The arrest came about as result of a lengthy investigation by the Paramus Police Detective Division. Detective Doug Ohlendorf was the lead investigator.

As reported in earlier media releases, there have been numerous burglaries to lockers and vehicles located at fitness centers located within the Boro of Paramus. On April 24, 2014 between 2:30 pm and 5:00 pm an actor entered an unlocked 2009 Chevy 4 door which was parked outside of 24 Hour Fitness located at 260 Route 4 eastbound. The suspect then stole a lap top computer, wallet and credit cards. Detective Ohlendorf with the assistance of Sgt. Steven Tibus of the Edgewater Police Department was able to develop information that identified the suspect as Mike A. Alvarez. The detectives were also able to develop enough evidence linking Alvarez to at least one other car burglary, that of a 2013 BMW that was also parked at the 24 Hour Fitness on February 11, 2014, in which a wallet and credit cards were stolen. On May 2, 2014 the Paramus Police arrested Alvarez in a parking lot on Tonnelle Avenue in North Bergen without incident. Alvarez was transported to Paramus Police Headquarters where he was charged, booked and then released on $5000.00 bail. The defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.

The suspect was charged on May 2, 2014 with:

Burglary to auto 2C:18-2
Theft of credit cards 2C:21-6
Theft 2C:20-7
