PEARL RIVER, N.Y. – “Innovation distinguishes between a leader and a follower,” said Steve Jobs. As the market leader in window fashions, Hunter Douglas is synonymous with innovation by design. Its products are a seamless blend of form and function that translates to great, trend-setting design, and this spring is no exception. From expanded horizons in light control, to handcrafted and textured looks, updated motorization options and an antimicrobial fabric, the Hunter Douglas introductions are charting new territory.
New Frontiers in Light Control
Light control tops almost everyone’s list when it comes to window dressings, and Silhouette® window shadings, with the Signature S-Vane™, take that concept to the next level. Its soft fabric vanes floating between two sheers transform incoming light from harsh and unyielding to gentle and diffused for an improved ambience and enhanced light control. Following in the tradition of innovation by design, the new Silhouette® A Deux™ dual roller system combines light-filtering and room-darkening capabilities in one window shading, in one headrail. Also brand new, an enhanced UltraGlide® retractable cord lifting system that allows the shading to lower and open with just one click.
The collection additionally offers 287 sku’s of luxurious fabrics from which to select, including four new choices:
• Myst™: A sophisticated metallic-accented vane with a colored face sheer brings shimmer and surprise to Alustra® Silhouette window shadings
• French Linen: Also exclusively featured in The Alustra Collection is a casual face sheer inspired by the look of refined linen
• Mystere™: A richly textured horizontal vane fabric and coordinating colored face sheer bring beautiful light diffusion to rooms
• Monaco™: A distinct, cross-textured fabric vane also sports wonderfully colored front sheers for added vibrancy at the window
Bringing Handcrafted Looks Home
Handcrafted looks are popular everywhere today, and there is even a “Maker movement” that is emerging as a youth quake of sorts. It emphasizes a DIY culture that spans everything from new applications of technology to traditional arts and crafts.
The new Heritance® hardwood shutters Handcrafted Series blends the natural elegance of genuine wood with custom artistry that allows you create the exact look you desire. The six handcrafted finishing techniques include hand-rubbed glazing, hand-sanded frame corners, brushing and a variety of other methods and are unique in the marketplace.
You can combine up to three techniques for a truly custom finish. A refreshed color palette with 15 paints and 21 stains plus custom color matching and updated frame selections further re-energize the timeless beauty of these shutters.
Heritance hardwood shutters are also environmentally friendly, energy efficient and cordless by design, making them a great choice for homes with young children. Hunter Douglas partners with the Arbor Day Foundation® in its effort to plant and preserve trees and the rainforest.
Lead times for Heritance hardwood shutters are dramatically shorter than industry standards, making your custom design an in-home reality even sooner.
Texture Where It Counts
Texture matters, especially at the window, where the interplay with incoming light can add that extra kick of style. An alternative to woven woods and solar shades, Alustra® Woven Textures® offers five new beautifully textured fabrics. All are available in the Alustra Roman shades, roller shades and Skyline® Gliding Window Panels collections.
The new fabrics include everything from “Retreat” with a romantic, light-filtering effect and a unique novelty yarn to “Primitive”, a raw, distressed look reminiscent of whitewashed wood, driftwood or a patina effect
on an old weather vane.
Also new, the UltraGlide® retractable cord lifting system on Alustra roller shades.
Several Shades Smarter
The award-winning Hunter Douglas Platinum™ App, which allows customers to easily preset and reset the precise positioning of multiple motorized window coverings for optimal privacy, security, energy management and ambiance, has a new Sunrise/Sunset feature. It uses GPS data to calculate location-specific times for automatically operating window coverings.
There is also the Platinum Gateway module that integrates home automation systems wirelessly with Hunter Douglas motorized window fashions. Available through Hunter Douglas Certified Motorization Specialist dealers only (email firstname.lastname@example.org to locate one).
Antimicrobial Fabric Protection at the Window
The centerpiece of this spring’s introductions for Hunter Douglas honeycomb shades is the handsome new Venue™ fabric, which features MicroShield™, an antimicrobial fabric protection that resists the growth of bacteria, mold and mildew that can cause odors. This is the only cellular fabric in the industry to include this kind of protection.
Also new, Applause® honeycomb shades with the UltraGlide® self-lowering retractable cord lifting system.
