LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ (May 12, 2014) -- The 2014 Special Olympics USA Games is less than 33 days away from the commencement of the largest, most innovative and inspirational national event to be held in the history of Special Olympics in the United States. Media interested in covering the 2014 Special Olympics USA Games can register at the Games’ website, www.2014specialolympics.org and are encouraged to register in advance to avoid delays in approval of credentials.
From June 14-21, America’s Champions will be revealed at a historic, life and perception-changing event as 3,500 Special Olympics athletes from all 50 states travel to New Jersey. Upon arrival, athletes will encounter a world-class sporting event that celebrates and showcases their talents, while empowering the nation to join in building communities of respect and acceptance.
From 16 different sports competitions in some of the top sports venues in the state including Princeton University to the creation of a Jersey Shore-themed Special Olympics Town complete with boardwalk for the athletes, the 2014 Special Olympics USA Games will showcase the achievements and determination of Special Olympics athletes nationwide. In addition to Princeton University, sports competition will be held at venues throughout Mercer County, New Jersey, including Rider University, The College of New Jersey, Mercer County Park and several area private schools. Special Olympics athletes will participate in spectacular Special Events including New Jersey Welcome Day, Opening Ceremony at Prudential Center, boat cruise to see the Statue of Liberty, Sports Showcases and the Closing Ceremony at Sun National Bank Center.
Media is encouraged to register for accreditation in advance of the Games or there may be a delay in approval and distribution of credential. Following the approval of your media request you will receive an email with confirmation and information on dates and times to pickup the Credential for the 2014 USA Games.
