“This is a special occasion as we celebrate a special life,” said Robert C. Garrett, president and chief executive officer of the Hackensack University Health Network. “Bobbie and I started at HackensackUMC at about the same time. She played a pivotal role and made a significant difference during a major turning point in our history as a medical center.”
Mrs. Toscano was remembered at the dedication ceremony for her skill in managing the operating room, for her dedication to colleagues and patients, and for her philanthropic commitment to the medical center, which she shared with her husband, Samuel Toscano.
“Bobbie’s demonstrated commitment to the highest quality care is part of her legacy,” said Helen A. Cunning, executive director of development at the HackensackUMC Foundation. “We are forever grateful for her generous support of the Foundation and the Auxiliary at HackensackUMC.”
Mr. Toscano is a member of the HackensackUMC Advisory Board of Directors and is a member of the HackensackUMC Foundation Board of Trustees. He previously served as chairman of the Foundation Board and also as chairman of the HackensackUMC Board of Governors.
Mrs. Toscano was diagnosed with leukemia and passed away last year at the age of 64. A sign bearing her name in memoriam was placed in a position of prominence at the John Theurer Cancer Center.
“Bobbie expressed to me how proud she was of the medical center and all that we have accomplished,” said Mr. Garrett. “Her name is permanently etched here and it will live on.”
Established in 1980 as a 501(c) (3) charitable organization, the HackensackUMC Foundation raises funds that support the diverse programs and services at the medical center.
