At the department’s annual networking luncheon this spring, the window fashions leader was honored with three awards. The first was in special recognition of the company’s “Substantial Investment in the Health of Their Employees.” When presenting this award, Melanie Shefchik, Rockland County Department of Health Program Director, focused on how Hunter Douglas has implemented supplemental activities such as Yoga, Zumba and Boot Camp and offered on-site Lose to Win weight loss classes. Hunter Douglas integrates Virgin Pulse into its wellness initiatives. Virgin Pulse is a Web-based resource and activity-tracking tool that helps to motivate individuals to increase their daily activity, easily track and monitor their progress, and manage all of their fitness information in one place. As a Virgin Pulse member, Hunter Douglas is proud to support their efforts to establish June as National Employee Wellness Month.
“Not only does Hunter Douglas provide incentives for positive health behavior change, they provide the tools and resources for the employees to be successful,” said Shefchik. “The company was specifically acknowledged by our funders as being extremely progressive and enthusiastic when it comes to employee wellness.”
Hunter Douglas also received an award for participating in the Rockland County program and partnering with the Health Department to improve the health of the community as well as a Certificate of Excellence for completing the minimum number of best-practice strategies for employee wellness. Some of the strategies completed include providing on-site physical activity and weight management programs, implementing policies and practices that support breastfeeding for mothers returning to work, offering on-site health screenings, implementing Health Risk Assessments and using incentives to promote healthy behaviors.
Said Marv Hopkins, Hunter Douglas Chairman and CEO, who initiated the company-wide Wellness Campaign four years ago, “We’re honored to receive the recognition. Our employees are our most valuable asset; their welfare has a direct impact on our success. Our goal is to significantly reduce the health risks to our employees and their families, and we can help achieve this by promoting health and wellness activities and programs that can be easily integrated into everyday living.”
