US Senator Ben Cardin Visits Hunter Douglas Fabrication In Cumberland As Part Of His "Made in Maryland Tour"

PEARL RIVER, N.Y., June 6, 2014 – U.S. Senator Ben Cardin (D-MD) visited Hunter Douglas Fabrication in Cumberland, Md., in May as part of his “Made in Maryland” tour, which highlights the importance of manufacturing in job creation and future economic growth. The largest Hunter Douglas fabrication facility, the plant encompasses almost 400,000 square feet on 36 ½ acres and employs over 850 people.  It is Allegany County’s fourth largest employer and has been located there since 1990.

The Senator congratulated the many Hunter Douglas Fabrication employees who had gathered for the occasion on their continued success and commended them on the longevity of the facility as a Maryland employer.  He experienced firsthand the innovations that make Hunter Douglas window fashions the best-in-class the world over on a plant tour where he was accompanied by senior management, including Joe Jankoski, Vice President of Merchandising for Hunter Douglas Inc.

“A true highlight of my Made in Maryland Job Tour, I wanted to visit Hunter Douglas to learn what Washington could do to help not only make local manufacturing survive, but thrive,” said Senator Cardin. “Hunter Douglas is one of the star companies that are investing in our local communities and adding to the regional economic growth in Western Maryland, and across the entire state.  Hunter Douglas provides good jobs and quality products; it is our job in Congress to help expand Americans’ access to both.”

Said Marv Hopkins, Hunter Douglas Chairman and CEO, “We’re honored to have had Senator Cardin visit our Cumberland facility and we are proud to be in Allegany County and in Western Maryland.  The hard work, dedication and talents of our Hunter Douglas Cumberland employees have resulted in tremendous growth for the facility over the past several decades and for Hunter Douglas as a whole.”         “It is with their help and support that all Hunter Douglas brand window fashions are designed, developed and custom-crafted in the United States, assuring that American consumers have the superb quality, outstanding service and enduring style they expect and deserve for their homes.”
