This past week was the finale for the Paramus Borough wide weight loss program. It was highlighted by Jasalyn DeRyke from Valley Hospital who contributed heavily to the weight loss. Jasalyn gave birth and was not able to attend. Mike Epstein from Gold's Gym acted as Emcee and filled in aptly. 150 peole signed up and 55 were at the final meeting. Former Councilman Ralph Amato had a conflict and was unable to attend, although he stuck to the program right to the end. Mayor Rich LaBarbiera also greeted the audience with pride in the fact that this year exceeded the previous year weight loss by 150%. Health Officer Judith Migliaccio was another proud person, Paramus being one of the state initiators of the program.
Mike Epstein showed that it was a family affair by bringing his wife and two sons to the presentation. The boys helped out in the distribution of the gifts offered at the end of the program. Mike urged the assemblage to continue their loss program throughout the year instead of just ending it after putting so much effort into losing weight. He suggested a yearly set of 12 week programs that each individual set for themselves and to try and stick to it. Sure, one may go off it for special occasions, but the idea is to set goals and try to achieve them.
Of course exercise was a main part of M ike Epstein's delivery, after all he is from Gold's Gym in Paramus. But, Mike did suggest in-home and walking exercises, the most important thing is not to relax nto inactivity and weight gain. He passed out sheets to everyone to help them as a guideline.
